Indra Nooyi

My life in Full : Work, Family and Our Future

Autobiography of Indra K. Nooyi titled 'My Life in Full: Work, Family and Our Future' is a highly readable book. Born in Madras in 1955, in a middle-class family, she studied in a local Christian school, graduated from Christian College, MBA from IIM Calcutta and later went to Yale University, USA to get another MBA degree. She had been very good at her studies. Her grandfather, a retired district judge, played an important role in her life as a motivator, tutor, and inspiration. Her other two siblings did equally well in life.

Having gotten her degree from Yale, she worked with Boston Consulting Group, Motorola, and later with ABB. She joined PepsiCo in 1994 and rose to the highest rank of CEO in 2006. She served as CEO of PepsiCo for 12 long years and retired in 2018. Her story is that of sheer hard work, grit, and determination. She went into greater detail about any project she handled and went down to the grassroots level to get feedback to bring about any change required.

She was honoured with Padma Bhushan by the Indian Government and honoured by many other universities with honorary degrees and other organisations. She had been on Forbes list of Most Powerful Women. She was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2022.

She suffered discrimination of race, gender, and in terms of economic parity with men. She has highlighted this in one full chapter. She also gives emphasis on greater work-family balance, which she confesses to having neglected her kids at times.   She is candid about many aspects of her life. This book should be read by all immigrants abroad who wish to succeed.
